If the dial of the Ball Engineer Master II Pilot GMT looks a bit different than most Ball watches, that is because it is. While the hour markers look like those you typically see on Ball watches - meaning they are made using tritium gas tubes - what is different is how they are applied. Rather than sit on top of the dial, they are set flush with the dial. This offers a new type of look for Ball and was done so that the GMT hand can move while being placed low on the dial. While the GMT hand has a familiar Rolex Explorer look, it doesn't use tritium gas tubes. In fact, the Ball Engineer Master II Pilot GMT watch is among the few Ball timepieces that has SuperLuminova on the dial in addition to tritium gas tubes. That means the GMT hand can look more traditional, but isn't going to be as visible in the dark.

The Portugieser 75th Anniversary uses IWC's in-house 59215 hand-wound movement. While watch aficionados love his Ball watches, Néry is better known to the general public for his mindblowing YouTube videos. (Although, of course, he did indeed rock his limited-edition Engineer II Master Diver in Free Fall.) Now Néry and his filmmaking partner Julie Gautier are back with another incredible diving video, Ocean Gravity, and it's sure to go viral again - and yes, he is repping Team Ball in it! Per the press release, Ocean Gravity depicts "a man, in a weightless condition, orbiting around a planet. Motionless, he glides at a high speed into a cosmos that appears to be endless. After a few seconds, we realize the reality... The cosmos is the ocean, the planet is the submerged surface of the earth, and the astronaut is a freediver. Welcome to the surrealist world of Ocean Gravity." And if you missed Néry's Free Fall must-see masterpiece, well, here it is below. Enjoy. ballwatch.com
Ernie Romers: Yes, it was difficult. The insiders (especially my wife and children who knew about my plans) asked themselves what would become of me if I no longer had to manage Watchuseek. They predicted a black hole. I wasn’t sure myself what would happen, but now, I can experience the rest I was longing for. I’m more relaxed now and have more time to spend on other interests, and of course with my family and friends. Less stress too.
Once the lever had been actuated, the pirouette of the subdials commences. The Montblanc Metamorphosis II offers the same functions as its predecessor: in normal state (which is what you can see pictured above), the watch indicates the hours on a dedicated subdial at the 12 o'clock position, minutes are displayed on a retrograde scale by a centrally mounted hand (along with a seconds hand that runs full-circle, as one would expect), while the date is displayed on a subdial at the 6 o'clock position. Over the latter subdial, is a sapphire bridge, which keeps the date's hand firmly in place, without obscuring the view on the gold subdials.
Luckily, we need not invent this complication – it's already out there. The hand-wound Bulgari DR3300 caliber offers this function, thanks to a harmonious co-operation of 327 hand-finished components. The movement runs on 3 Hertz and offers 75 hours of power reserve – it even has a power reserve indicator located on the back of the watch.
They have also taken the opportunity to mix in quite a few new strap options, with new rubber dive straps, leather options (NATO-style or Italian leather), and a new bracelet. When those options are combined with the various color palettes that are available, the brand estimates you have about 133 possible combinations to choose from. In other words, if you have been a fan of the Christopher Ward C60 Trident lineup as I have been, you will likely find something that is to your tastes. Most of these new models are now available, directly from Christopher Ward; those up for pre-order should be available in February. christopherward.com
Ariel Adams: Design and visual appeal are very important considerations consumers make when choosing to buy a product. Has the smartwatch industry to this point been getting it right? If not what mistakes are they making?
ABTW: Do you still have it?
