This watch is dedicated to the story of Kupe's Voyage, a Maori tale about Polynesian adventure and folklore. The story describes how Islanders first came to the New Zealand land mass to settle, complete with the trial and tribulations. It is almost like a Maori version of Columbus, but without all the controversy and killing of the natives. These were the real ocean adventurers who traveled for thousands of miles not in galleons, but canoes.

The style of the watch isn't going to appeal to everyone. Clearly this is an avant garde timepiece with the time telling portion of the face taking rear-stage to the retrograde hand, though the time is easy to tell on the dial. Like I said before, this is the way it is done with many Breguet watches where the time is smaller than it needs to be. The watch is a thematic throwback, a piece of art and a message. The designer of the watch wanted to illustrate just how long ten seconds is, and what we can do in that time. Wearers of the Tempograph watch will likely receive that message all to well. Those who enjoy the design of the watch need no convincing. They will love the style of the complex case, and enjoy the constant movement and interest of the dial. Retro with an A grade (cheesy pun but still applicable!).
On paper, this watch can't be beat for under 0: Sapphire crystal, unique-but-proven Swiss ETA movement, hand-assembly and quality control based in the US, tough-brushed steel, screwed-in bracelet, crown and back, and a unique take on a classic style.
The rooms where the watch makers sit is always headed by a leader - who sits in the back. The room leader is a more senior level watch maker who is there to answer questions and over see work. These leaders are not only there to ensure that the output is as planned, but to mentor the more junior members of the team. You can see from the pictures that the rooms are neatly organized, and have large open windows as to not make anyone feel stuffy. The rooms are kept small on purpose (I saw no more than 20-30 people per room), as to enhance the level of team work and cohesion as everyone is there to focus on a common goal. It is also important to communicate what everyone is working for. One feature of this ideal was how the watch making rooms were decorated, with framed images of watch movements or pieces there of. As if saying to the people in the room, "remember what you are working for, and remember that they are treasures fit for wall decoration and to be framed." It was a nice touch, and I thought it charming to at least see people proud of their work.
