Congrats to Dean that was the lucky winner of the ELYSEE Aviator Automatic watch that was the aBlogtoRead.com giveaway of May 2011. Here are his thoughts:
Sinn is sort of the anti-Swiss watch in theme. The brand offers high-quality tool and professional-use watches that are reasonably priced and have zero lifestyle marketing behind them. I believe at the time, the new Bell & Ross brand saw an opportunity to market the Sinn concept to a more lifestyle and fashion oriented demographic, while retaining the core look and functionality that made Sinn what they were.
One of those pieces is this Bell & Ross Vintage Original BR 126. There are a range of these new vintage looking watches from the brand and you'd be forgiven to get them confused given the soup of names. As you can hear in the review video, I like to muse on the fact that not only is "Vintage Original" a bit redundant, but that other watches from Bell & Ross have almost identical names. So when shopping for them, go by look rather than name to make it easy.
Very rarely do I get to review a watch that is actually a remake of another watch the brand made just a few years earlier - that I also reviewed. This Marvin Malton 160 Rectangular Flying Hour watch (ref. M024.14.41.64) is a follow-up piece to the brand's previous Marvin M014 watch that I reviewed here. In addition to a new case design, the new Malton 160 (to be honest I still don't understand what the "Malton 160" name in new Marvin watches means) Rectangular Flying Hour piece improves on two important areas over the original.
"In Euclidian geometry, a quadrilateral with one pair of parallel sides is called a trapezoid, or trapezium. This simple, yet elegant geometric form was the concept from which the new Cabestan Trapezium evolved. Applied to the world of watchmaking, this mathematical principle is magnified. Regardless of the viewing angle, a trapezium is visible. The result is an intricately woven combination of quadrilaterals that creates a strikingly powerful design and a remarkable showcase for its amazing mechanism."
